I have always wanted to venture into working with sculpture but could never find the right tone for this type of visual language. After spending time exploring and documenting the Mojave Desert in 2017—an experience that prompted me to begin making three-dimensional objects—I decided to begin freeform cutting basic wood shapes that I then assembled into miniature prototypes. Within this new context, I was able to pull into this multidimensional space, shapes that are akin to the ethereal formations seen in the deserts seemingly unplanned and charismatic geometry. Thru artistic passage I realized how these forms—which are ubiquitous within a deserts inherent landscape—could work together in unison as one solitary piece of work. From that point, my first series of sculptures emerged.
